According to the rating of Skytrax, the independent British agency, Domodedovo airport belongs to the triple of the best airports of Eastern Europe.
It was on 25 March 1964 when the first Tu-104 aircraft with passengers on board departed from Domodedovo and was bound for Sverdlovsk. On 20 May 1964 there was the opening of the air terminal complex. The regular passenger flights began in 1966. As for today, there are 77 airlines that make regular flight operations in Domodedovo including 36 foreign, 29 Russian and 12 air carriers from the CIS. Flights from Domodedovo airport cover 241 national and international routes, 92 of them are unique for Moscow region – only from Domodedovo one can take these flights.
The airport complex includes an airfield created by two independent parallel runways (RWY1 and RWY2). Two kilometres separate them which make Domodedovo the only airport in the Moscow Air Cluster to provide simultaneous operations on parallel runways. The ground floor hosts the check-in islands, shops, spots to eat, waiting area.
In 1999 there began the reconstruction of the air terminal complex which was carried out within the framework of the Integrated Programme of Airport Development till 2003 approved by the Moscow Oblast Government and RF Federal Aviation Service Board. Owing to the Programme the air terminal complex was completely reconstructed and opened in 2000. During the whole period of the reconstruction the airport operations never came to a stop. During 2004 – 2008 the works were carried out to expand the area of passenger terminals.
In 2011, within the World Airport Awards the airport was recognised as the best one in Eastern Europe.
Reconstructing terminals with Uponor systems
The Uponor products were used to construct new terminals (terminal 2 and 3), the total area of which is more than 50,000 sq m: plumbing and heating systems based on cross-linked polyethylene PE-Xa up to 110 mm in diameter. Maintainability, energy efficiency, and easy installation are the benefits that make one choose cross-linked polyethylene pipes. The open areas of some site's parts do also make for the choice of polyethylene pipes. Unlike the steel ones they are easy to install and are the optimal solution for the areas where welding is inadmissible to cope with a failure. The beginning of the Uponor building services installation is planned at an early date.
The ordering party is Domodedovo Airport Service.
